December 19, 2016 – CSHE senior research fellow John Aubrey Douglass recently gave the keynote address at the Times Higher Education (THE) BRICS Summit held at the University of Johannesburg on the New Flagship University model. Approximately 170 academic leaders and higher education scholars and representatives from ministries attended the two-day meeting which sought a revised vision of the World Class University concept and alternative narrative to global rankings of universities focus almost entirely on certain measures of research productivity.

The video of his THE Summit keynote speech and discussion with moderator John Gill (Editor, Times Higher Education) and with the audience is now available.

The keynote speech also aligns with the release of the paperback version of his book The New Flagship University: Changing the Paradigm Global Rankings to National Relevancy published by Palgrave Macmillan/Springer. You can purchase a copy from Amazon.

A follow-up book edited by Douglass and John Hawkins, Envisioning the Asian New Flagship University: Its Past and Vital Future, will be published in spring 2017.
